Mikhail Kostyukov was born on October 23, 1926 in the village of Bolshye Polyany (Gorky region). In 1939, the family, parents and six children moved to the village Bobrovka (now — Troitskiy district of the Chelyabinsk region). After graduating from seven grades of school, he worked at the Voroshilov collective farm. In September 1943, Kostyukov was called up to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the school of sergeants. Since April 1944, he served on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By February 1945, Sergeant Mikhail Kostyukov commanded the machine gun crew of the 459th Infantry Regiment of the 42nd Infantry Division of the 49th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front. Distinguished himself during the liberation Poland.

On February 13, 1945, during the battle for the village of Kosovo, 14 kilometers southeast of the city Tukholya Kostyukov destroyed a large number of enemy soldiers and officers with his machine gun fire. On February 24, 1945, he died in battle near the village of Weissbruch, 8 kilometers northwest of the city Chersk. He was buried in Chersk.

By decree of the Presidium On June 29, 1945, Sergeant Mikhail Kostyukov was posthumously awarded a high rank by the Supreme Soviet of the USSR Hero of the Soviet Union. He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin.

A street in Bobrovka is named in Kostyukov's honor, a memorial plaque is installed on his house (15 house on Kostyukov Street) and a bust is installed in Troitsk.
