Plotnikov Pavel Artemyevich, was born on March 4, 1920 in the village of Gonba, Shakhovskaya volost, Barnaul district, Altai province (now the city of Barnaul, Altai Territory). From 1929 to 1938 lived in the city of Barnaul. In August 1938, he was drafted into the army by the Barnaul RVC.

In August 1940, he graduated from the Novosibirsk Military Aviation Pilot School. Since September 1941, he participated in the Great Patriotic War and fought on various western fronts. For the exemplary performance of combat missions of the Command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, he was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (in August 1944 and June 1945).

During the war, he made 344 combat missions on bombers (203 sorties on a Pe-2 aircraft, 104 sorties on an SB aircraft, 31 sorties on Ar-2 and A-20 Boston aircraft), and shot down 3 enemy aircraft in air battles . Lived in Moscow. Died December 14, 2000.

He was buried in Moscow (Sosenskoye settlement) at the Ivanovo cemetery. Bronze bust of P.A. Plotnikov is installed in the city of Barnaul.
