General of the Army Ivan Danilovich Chernyakhovsky (29,06,1907-18,02,1945). Under his leadership, Vitebsk (June 26, 1943), Minsk (July 3, 1943), Vilnius (July 13, 1943), and Kaunas (August 1, 1943) were liberated.|
On January 13, 1945, he headed the command of the East Prussian Offensive Operation. February 18, 1945 died near the town of Melzak in East Prussia (now-Penenzno, Poland) - Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1943, 1944), awarded the Order of Lenin (1943), 4 Orders of the Red Banner (twice in 1942, 1943, 1944), two Orders of Suvorov 1st class (in 1943), the Order of Kutuzov 1st class (1944), the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 1st class (1944).
