KALACH-ON-DON - the city of MILITARY GLORY
During the Great Patriotic War, about 10 thousand inhabitants of Kalach-on-Don fought with the Nazis in the ranks of the Red Army.
November 23, 1942 here the historical "Connection of the Fronts" took place, with the Nazis surrounded at Stalingrad.
In the city center on the Square of the Fallen Fighters in the park is a mass grave. 1267 Red Army soldiers are buried in it. On the territory of the Kalachevsky district there are 59 mass graves, where 5137 people are buried. Sixteen streets are named after heroes.
03.25.2010 by the Decree of the President of Russia "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism shown by the defenders of the city in the struggle for the freedom and independence of the Fatherland ..." the city of Kalach-on-Don was awarded the Honorary title of the Russian Federation "City of Military Glory".
