Molchanov Evgeny Mikhailovich - Deputy commander of the machine gun squad of the 223rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 78th Guards Rifle Division of the 7th Guards Army of the Voronezh Front, Guards Red Army.
Born in 1924 in the village of Zhadovka, Baryshsky district, Ulyanovsk region, in a peasant family. He received primary education.
In 1942, he was drafted by the Baryshsky RVC into the ranks of the Red Army. In the battles of the Great Patriotic War since March 1943. He fought on the Voronezh Front.
On July 6, 1943, the deputy commander of the machine gun squad of the 223rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the Red Army, E. M. Molchanov, especially distinguished himself in defensive battles in the Belgorod-Kursk direction. Molchanov's machine-gun crew, who was on the right flank of the company, was the first to take on the blow of a company of German machine gunners, meeting the enemy with strong machine-gun fire. Enemy tanks began to enter from the flank. Molchanov was seriously wounded. Two tanks moved towards the Hero. He knocked out the first tank with grenades. Ran out of ammunition. Having lost consciousness, Molchanov lay at his machine gun. Fascist tanks were coming at him at high speed.
He was buried in the village of Krutoy Log, Belgorod district, Belgorod region.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 1, 1943, for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism of the Guard, the Red Army soldier Evgeny Mikhailovich Molchanov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
He was awarded the Order of Lenin. A street in the village of Krutoy Log of the Belgorod district of the Belgorod region is named after the Hero.
