A special call sign is in honor of the 78th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in memory of the first chief of civil defense of the USSR an outstanding Soviet military leader, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal of the Soviet Union Chuikov Vasily Ivanovich. During the Great Patriotic War Vasily Chuikov became famous while commanding the 62nd Army which heroically defended Stalingrad. The army under his command took an active part in the defeat of enemy troops at the final stage of the battle of Stalingrad. During the hostilities during the war, Vasily Chuikov participated in the liberation of the Ukraine, Belarus, Baltics, Poland and the capture of Berlin. He was twice awarded the highest title of the Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1961, Marshal Vasily Chuikov became the first head of the Civil Defense of the USSR. In 1982, he was buried on the Mamaev Kurgan next to the soldiers who died in the battle for Stalingrad. |
