The work of the Memorial radio station RP78MY (RDA KG-19, locator KO85FA)

dedicated to the city of military glory - Maloyaroslavets.

The city of Maloyaroslavets is the center of the administrative district, located in the northern part of the Kaluga region. Remote from Moscow - 120 km., Kaluga - 60 km. Here, in October 1812, the advance of Napoleon's army, which was moving from Moscow to Kaluga, was stopped.

During the years of the Great Patriotic War, more than 9 thousand residents of the city and the region were mobilized into the Red Army, only about 4 thousand of them returned home, hundreds of Maloyaroslavl civilians died from bombing and shelling, died of starvation and disease. Currently, more than 30 monuments, obelisks, mass and individual graves of Soviet people who died or died from wounds during the war years have been installed on Maloyaroslavets land. More than 10 thousand people found their last shelter in them. According to the latest data, about 12 thousand fighters, commanders and partisans died or died from wounds in the battles on the territory of the Maloyaroslavets region, the names of almost half of them have not yet been established.

During the Great Patriotic War, Maloyaroslavets underwent a short occupation (October 18, 1941 was taken by the 19th Wehrmacht Panzer Division).

Maloyaroslavets was completely liberated on January 2, 1942, and the red flag flew over the city council building again. On the streets of the city, according to various sources, from 500 to 1000 killed Nazis were counted. The total losses of the enemy in the battles for the city amounted to about 4 thousand soldiers and officers. 35 tanks, 12 tankettes, 13 armored vehicles, 560 vehicles, 160 guns, 65 mortars, 3 ammunition depots, about a thousand bicycles, and many wagons with various cargoes were also captured. Among the trophies were the general's dress uniform and a sword, on the blade of which there was an inscription that these weapons were handed over by Hitler to the commander of Army Group Center for the victory parade in Moscow. Our losses amounted to 1350 fighters and commanders. For courage and heroism shown in these battles, the military council of the 43rd Army was presented with 479 people for awards, and the Military Council of the Western Front additionally awarded orders and medals to 84 soldiers and the commander of a special battalion of the Moscow Military District. Later, the leadership of Maloyaroslavets, on behalf of the grateful inhabitants, presented the formations that participated in the battles for its liberation with commemorative Red banners.

By the Decree of President V.V. Putin dated May 7, 2012, the city was awarded the honorary title "City of Military Glory".
